WANG Yingjie

 

 

Dr. Wang Yingjie is a senior professor of comparative education in the Institute of International and Comparative Education at Beijing Normal University. He received his PhD in Education from BNU and was a visiting scholar at Stanford University (1980-1982), visiting professor at Vermont University (1988-1989), and Fulbright research scholar at Harvard University (1991-1992). He was the director of the Institute of International and Comparative Education at Beijing Normal University (1991-1995), dean of the School of Education at the University of Macao (1993-1995) and vice-president of Beijing Normal University (1995-1999). He is now the president of the China Comparative Education Society. He also serves as vice president of the World Council of Comparative Education Societies, vice president of China Association of Higher Education. 

His main research interests are comparative education, higher education and education policy analysis. He was also involved in many national research projects, such as Evaluation of Creativity in Universities, Review of the Contemporary Educational Thoughts, the Formation and Development of World-Class Universities, A Comparative study on the Development of Private Higher Education, A Comparative Study on the Academic Degree and Graduate Education. Ministry of Education.  He published dozens of books and more than one hundred journal papers. Among them, the most recognized books include The Development and Reform of American Higher Education( Beijing: People's Education Press, 1993), Implementing Basic Education in China: Progress and Prospects in Rich, Poor and National Minority Area, coauthored with Keith Lewin (Paris: International Institute for Educational Planning, UNESCO, 1994), Compulsory Education in Asian Developing Countries, coauthored with Qu Hengchang and Li Jiayong ( Beijing: People's Education Press, 1997), American Education, coauthored with Yu Kai, Wang Xiaoyang and Zhao Liang (Changchun: Jilin Education Press, 2001), Comparative Education (Guangzhou: Guangdong Higher Education Press, 1999),The Formation and Development of World-class Universities, coauthored with Liu Baocun( Taiyuan: Shanxi Education Publishing House, 2008).

He has received many honours and awards for his research and teaching in the field of education, including State Council Expert for Special Allowance, National Outstanding Award in Educational Sciences, National Outstanding Award in teaching, the Wu Yuzhang Award in Humanities and Social Sciences, Beijing Government Outstanding Award in Philosophy and Social Sciences.
